Greek FM Spokesperson: Electricity cable project, will proceed on schedule

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lana Zochiou emphasized that Greece is advancing its strategic initiatives, guided by International Law, despite reactions from neighbouring countries.
Mitsotakis to Meet Erdogan at UN General Assembly
The spokesperson confirmed that Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will meet Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. While the High-Level Cooperation Council between the two countries has not yet been scheduled, ongoing discussions have continued under the framework of the Political Dialogue and Positive Agenda, including recent talks in Ankara in June 2025.
Greece-Cyprus Electricity Interconnection
The electricity interconnection project linking Greece with Cyprus and Israel is described as a geostrategic initiative with full European support. The project, classified as an EU Project of Common Interest and grounded in International Law, will proceed according to the construction timetable without requiring additional authorisation.
Strategic Positions on Ukraine and Palestine
Regarding Ukraine, Greece continues to support sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemning Russia’s violations and advocating for diplomatic solutions in line with EU and UN policies. On the Palestinian issue, Greece reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution, emphasizing the urgent need to stop hostilities in Gaza, provide humanitarian aid, and release hostages, while promoting the resumption of a political process.
