Greece-Turkiye dialogue to continue despite problems
The Greek and Turkish foreign ministers, George Gerapetritis and Hakan Fidan, are expected to meet Wednesday-Thursday on the sidelines of a NATO summit in Antalya to discuss possible dates for a bilateral meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, likely within the next two months.
The leaders may also meet briefly during the NATO summit in The Hague in late June. Their talks are expected to pave the way for the next session of the High-Level Cooperation Council.
Despite ongoing tensions – notably over the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection – both sides continue dialogue. Last Wednesday, Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Tasos Chatzivasileiou attended a Greek-Turkish business forum in Istanbul, where he met with his Turkish counterpart Mehmet Kemal Bozay. The two reviewed the positive agenda and reaffirmed a goal to increase bilateral trade to €10 billion by 2030.
They also signed a memorandum on a second Greece-Turkiye power link. Military confidence building meetings also resumed this week in northern Greece.
