Famelos criticizes the government: "Why has Eastern Macedonia and Thrace had no railway for four years?"

During his speech in Parliament, SYRIZA President Sokratis Famelos highlighted major shortcomings in Greece's railway system, particularly in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. He criticized the ruling New Democracy (ND) party for failing to maintain railway services in the region since 2019, despite claiming to be diligent in transport planning.
Famelos accused the government of neglecting the people of Thrace while only focusing on "photo opportunities at the border fence." He described the government as dangerous and out of touch with reality, urging it to resign in response to public demands.
Regarding the deadly Tempi train disaster, Famelos questioned why the control center was non-operational and why there had been a politically motivated transfer of the stationmaster. He claimed that under SYRIZA, railway signaling improvements had been initiated, but ND had halted them. He also demanded accountability for staff reductions at the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) between 2018 and 2022.
Additionally, Famelos criticized the government for attempting to cover up the Tempi tragedy, pointing to the leaked recordings of train drivers' conversations. He demanded to know who authorized the leaks and when Parliament would receive the full case file, noting that two years had already passed.
Concluding his speech, he called on all progressive forces to unite against what he termed a "government of cover-ups," emphasizing that democracy provides a way forward through progressive leadership.
