 In a statement released by the Hellenic Basketball Association (HEBA), "Ergin Ataman not only led Panathinaikos to the championship in his first season in the Greek Basketball League, but was also named coach of the year for the 2023-2024 season."In the statement, it was reminded that Ataman won the 3rd championship in his Europa League career with Panathinaikos, and he was voted the coach of the year with 36.36 per cent of the votes, with 8 people choosing him in the voting attended by club presidents and coaches.

Ataman received 67.44 percent of the votes with the support of 29 people in the voting of media representatives and 56.45 percent of the votes with the support of 1374 people in the voting of sports fans. Head coach Ataman said in his statement after the award, "I receive this valuable award on behalf of my teammate Hristos Serelis and my entire team who did a great job throughout the season. The award is given to the head coach, but it belongs to the whole team." Ataman led Panathinaikos to the championship in both the Greek Basketball League and the Turkish Airlines Europa League last season.
