Obradovic returns to Panathinaikos on three-year deal

Greek basketball powerhouse Panathinaikos announced on Sunday the return of legendary Serbian coach Zeljko Obradovic on a three-year contract, marking his first stint with the club in 14 years.

The Athens-based club confirmed the appointment through its social media channels, bringing back the coach widely regarded as the most successful in European club basketball history.

Obradovic, 66, previously led Panathinaikos from 1999 to 2012, overseeing the most successful era in the club's history. During his 13-year tenure, the Greek side captured five EuroLeague titles along with multiple domestic league and cup trophies.

The Serbian tactician holds a record nine EuroLeague titles, achieved with Partizan, Joventut Badalona, Real Madrid Baloncesto, Panathinaikos and Fenerbahce Beko.

After leaving Panathinaikos in 2012, Obradovic spent seven seasons with Fenerbahce, guiding the Turkish club to its first EuroLeague championship in 2017 and several domestic titles.

He returned to Partizan in 2021 and remained in charge until 2025.

His appointment signals a new chapter for Panathinaikos as the club seeks to build on its European ambitions under the coach who delivered five continental crowns and established one of the most dominant dynasties in EuroLeague history.
