Drivers aged 65 and older: Important notice!

Drivers turning 65 in 2025 must renew their licenses as part of the new regulations.

Under the updated rules, drivers aged 65 with paper licenses are required to replace them with new card-format licenses. The renewal process mandates surrendering the old paper license and undergoing medical examinations conducted by a pathologist and an ophthalmologist.

Key highlights of the new regulations include:

Drivers aged 65 and older must renew their licenses every three years.
For those aged 80 and above, renewal is required every two years, with additional medical examinations by a pathologist, ophthalmologist, and an ENT specialist.

Who Else Needs to Submit Their Paper Licenses?

Anyone adding a new driving category to their license, regardless of age, must surrender their old paper license. For instance, a driver upgrading from a car license to include motorcycles must exchange the old license for a new one with the additional category.

According to European Union directives, all old paper licenses, regardless of category, status, or issuance date, must be replaced with new ones by January 19, 2033.
