In a recent television interview, Deputy Minister of the Interior Vassilis Spanakis commented on the tragic train accident in Tempi that claimed the lives of several children.

Spanakis stated, "The children who went missing in Tempi are our children," emphasizing that the accident is a source of profound sorrow for all of Greece.

He also addressed potential future inquiries in the Hellenic Parliament, assuring that if any investigation files come through, processes regarding the responsibilities of political figures would begin immediately. "From day one, we must clarify everything," he added. Spanakis rejected any claims of a cover-up, affirming that "currently, an investigative committee is working according to specific procedures, and the results will follow accordingly."

The Deputy Minister further noted that neither the government nor any governmental body can interfere with the judicial process. He condemned the attacks against Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Konstantinos Tasoulas, stating, "Those who seek to exploit this tragedy for political gain are not doing the right thing." Spanakis also revealed that proposals for legal changes aimed at ensuring swift justice were rejected by Syriza and Pasok.

In conclusion, Spanakis said, "These kinds of events should be handled beyond political rivalry, solely to ensure justice is served."
