Dendias: 'We are against the updating of the Treaty of Lausanne'

Speaking at an event marking the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne at the School of the Ministry of Defence, Minister Dendias said: "We strongly oppose any revision of the Treaty of Lausanne, especially references to changing borders. We condemn any revisionist tendency, dialogue cannot take place outside certain rules and frameworks. Any dialogue should accept the provisions of the Treaty of Lausanne and the UN Charter as they are."

Noting that the Treaty of Lausanne regulates borders and ensures international legitimacy, Dendias said that international legitimacy expresses historical permanence.

"Any talks between Greece and Türkiye and any serious hope of opening a new chapter in our relations 100 years after the signing of the Treaty of Lausanne depend on the acceptance of the provisions of the Treaty of Lausanne and the international law of the sea," Dendias said.

Defence Minister Dendias also stated that sovereignty issues cannot be part of the dialogue.
