Concern over U.S. interest in Greece if Ukraine War ends

Greek national media has expressed concerns that Greece's strategic importance to the United States could diminish, particularly regarding the port of Alexandroupoli, if the war in Ukraine comes to an end.

Dedeağaç’s Role in NATO Operations
An article in Kathimerini titled "Athens' Concern Over the Ukraine Issue" highlighted the potential consequences of a post-war scenario. The report recalled that for nearly three years, the Alexandroupoli Port has served as a key transit hub for NATO troops and military equipment bound for Ukraine and the alliance’s eastern flank.

With the war’s eventual conclusion, the port’s significance could decline. The report questioned whether NATO’s reduced focus on supporting its eastern flank might diminish Alexandroupoli’s role, despite U.S. plans for further investments in the area.

Additionally, the article mentioned Türkiye’s stance on a two-state solution in Cyprus and noted that Athens is likely to take a cautious approach toward any redrawing of Ukraine’s borders.
