The Trifylia Municipality convened a meeting to prevent further spread of the bacteria among livestock. Measures decided include burning dead animals in deep, specially prepared pits; vaccinating animal species susceptible to anthrax; and sterilizing all equipment, vehicles, clothing, and materials used in animal care.

Known scientifically as Bacillus anthracis, the anthrax bacterium primarily affects grazing animals such as cattle, sheep, and goats, and can also cause serious infectious disease in humans. In animals, it often leads to sudden death.
