The civil society organization KEERFA (Movement Against Racist Threat), which advocates for human rights, has claimed that a migrant died as a result of being beaten at a police station.
Allegation of migrant's death due to beating at police station

On Friday, September 27, 2024, KEERFA issued a statement on social media alleging that "Migrant courier Muhammad Kamran Asik died after being tortured at the Agios Panteleimonas police station." The post included images of Asik’s body and accused the police of attempting to cover up the crime.

The statement also claimed that police tried to portray Asik, who had been living in the country with a residence permit since 2017, held a lease, and was employed with insurance, as homeless and non-Greek-speaking.

According to KEERFA, Asik had visited five different police stations during the ordeal, and the organization is now calling for an investigation into the incident. They also announced that Asik’s colleagues plan to hold a 24-hour strike on October 11, during which they will demand both an inquiry into Asik’s death and address other labor-related concerns.

In contrast, the police claim that 38-year-old Asik arrived at the station with visible injuries and suddenly died soon after, as reported by local media.
