Additional 80 kilometers of steel wall from Greece to the Turkish border

It is stated that Greece has decided to extend the giant steel concrete fence on the Turkish border for another 80 kilometres.

In order to prevent the migration of immigrants by taking advantage of EU funds, it is stated that Greece decided to extend the steel fence in the Evros (Meriç) river in Alexandroupoli of Western Thrace for another 80 kilometers in the period 2022-2027.

In the latest report sent by the government to the European Commission for Migration, it was stated that it should be allowed to use EU funds to build a steel-concrete wall along the Turkish border on the Evros (Meriç) river.

THEY ASKED SUPPORT FROM EU AND USA

According to the news published in Politico, Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen categorically rejected the use of EU funds for "Barbed wire and walls", while European Council President Charles Michel defended the opposite view and stated that support should be given.

It was stated that the Minister of Immigration and Asylum Notis Mitarakis held talks on the issue in New York and asked for support from the US government.

The government extended the steel-concrete fence it started on the banks of the Evros River last year to 28 kilometres. It has also installed ultra sound systems that emit sound waves at the border, and last month it was decided to place 250 new border guards in the area.
