4.6 Skyros earthquake: “Nothing alarming,” Lekkas says
An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck shortly after 23:00 (23:04) on Monday in the sea area west-northwest of İskiri (Skyros).
Professor Efthimis Lekkas, a specialist in Natural Disaster Management, told ANA-MPA that authorities are monitoring the seismic activity, noting that there is no cause for concern and no reports of damage.
“The earthquake occurred northwest of Skyros, in an underwater area. Its magnitude was 4.6, and we have recorded three smaller tremors measuring between 2 and 3,” he said. He added that this particular region experiences relatively intense seismic activity. “The entire northern Aegean region is far from densely populated or residential areas.”
Lekkas confirmed that the quake was felt in Attica, on İskiri (Skyros), and in nearby regions.
