6.0 magnitude quake jolts sea area between Kassos and Crete; felt in the Dodecanese

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale occurred at 01:51 am on Wednesday in the sea area, located 19 km south-southwest of Kassos.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale occurred at 01:51 am on Wednesday in the sea area, located 19 km south-southwest of Kassos island (to the east of Crete), at a focal depth of 35 km, according to data from the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens. 

The German Geosciences Research Centre (GFZ) estimated the earthquake's magnitude to be 6.3, with a focal depth of approximately 83 kilometres.

The correspondent of the ANA-MPA in Rhodes reported that the earthquake was felt throughout the Dodecanese.

The correspondent of ANA-MPA in Chania reported that the earthquake was felt mainly in eastern Crete. According to initial information from the fire department, there was no damage reported.
