30 PASOK MPs question ferry ticket price hikes
Thirty members of parliament from the PASOK party have submitted a joint question to the Greek Parliament, sharply criticizing the government for what they describe as “outrageous ferry ticket prices,” which they claim prevent average Greek families from affording even short holidays. They also slam the government’s “inaction” regarding the so-called price observatory, which remains ineffective.
According to their statement, “Ferry fare increases have reached a staggering 43% between 2019 and 2025 under the New Democracy administration, while cumulative inflation during the same period stands at just 18%.”
The MPs are directing their questions to Minister of Development Takis Theodorikakos and Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilias, asking:
- When will a modern price observatory be launched, providing weekly data so that citizens can track price fluctuations and compare fares across all main ferry routes of at least two hours’ duration?
- What measures will be taken to address ongoing double-digit price hikes?
- How will the government ensure the Competition Commission delivers timely and concrete results?
- Why has the Ministry of Shipping referred five cases to the Competition Commission, of which only one has moved forward, and why has there been no follow-up on the others?
The PASOK MPs call for transparency and urgent action, arguing that unchecked ferry costs are harming both consumers and the broader tourism sector.
