Digital registration of diagnostic tests becomes mandatory for reimbursement in Greece
Diagnostic laboratory test results must be digitally uploaded to Greece’s Digital Repository from Sept. 1, 2026, in order to qualify for reimbursement by the country's National Organization for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY).
The new requirement applies to private healthcare providers contracted with EOPYY, including diagnostic centers and private clinics, as part of the organization’s ongoing integration with the Digital Repository of Diagnostic Laboratory Results.
Under the new system, reimbursement will only be granted for tests whose results have been successfully uploaded to the digital platform. The measure aims to improve the completeness of medical records while ensuring accurate reimbursement for healthcare services provided to insured patients.
The mandatory digital registration will cover a wide range of laboratory examinations, including hematology, blood donation-related tests, immunology, biochemistry, microbiology, endocrinology, as well as RIA-based immunological, biochemical and hormonal tests. Within Greece’s electronic prescription system, these examinations are classified under the categories “Biological Materials 1” and “Biological Materials 2.”
Beginning with reimbursement claims submitted for September 2026, EOPYY will conduct automated checks through its eDAPY platform to verify that test results have been uploaded to the Digital Repository.
If the result of any examination has not been registered, that individual test will not be reimbursed. Each examination listed on a referral will be assessed separately.
EOPYY also instructed healthcare providers to complete all mandatory data fields specified by Greece’s e-Government Center for Social Security Services (IDIKA), warning that incomplete submissions could result in reimbursement reductions or claim rejections during the verification process.
