Romania's new government to be sworn in after more than 5 months of political uncertainty

Romania's new government, led by Prime Minister Luca Niculescu, is set to be sworn in late Tuesday, ending more than five months of political uncertainty following a parliamentary vote of confidence, according to media reports.

Romanian broadcaster Antena 3 said the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 7 pm local time (1600GMT) at Cotroceni Palace, the president's official residence.

The Cabinet is expected to travel to the Victoria Palace, the government's headquarters, for its first meeting immediately afterward.

Niculescu thanked lawmakers for granting his government a vote of confidence and said the new administration would begin work immediately, according to the report.

The government secured 280 votes in favor and 58 against, it added.

Niculescu said the vote marked an opportunity to end more than five months of political deadlock as he outlined priorities, including the 2027 budget, winter energy security and economic recovery.

He thanked lawmakers from the Social Democratic Party (PSD), National Liberal Party (PNL), Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) and national minority representatives for their support.
