Greece has officially joined the group of European Union countries where the monthly minimum wage exceeds €1,000, following a series of increases over the past two years. According to the latest data released by Eurostat, Greece’s statutory minimum wage reached €1,027 as of April 2025, on an annualized basis.

This marks the fifth increase in Greece’s minimum wage since 2022. The €1,027 figure reflects Eurostat’s standard methodology, which calculates monthly compensation by dividing total annual earnings—including holiday and Christmas bonuses—by 12 months.

A step up in EU rankings

With this adjustment, Greece has moved into the middle-tier group of EU member states where the monthly minimum wage ranges between €1,000 and €1,500. It now ranks above Portugal, Cyprus, and Croatia, and shares the category with Spain, Poland, and a few other countries with similarly structured economies.

Only 13 of the EU’s 27 countries currently maintain a national minimum wage, and among these, nine still have rates below €1,000. Bulgaria continues to have the lowest minimum wage, at just €551 per month.

Substantial wage growth since 2019

The increase highlights a significant upward trend in Greece’s wage structure. In 2019, the country’s minimum wage stood at €758 per month (annualized). Since then, it has grown by €269, representing a 35.5% increase. Over a full year, this amounts to an additional €3,328, or more than four extra monthly wages based on 2019 levels.
