Kosovo’s Kurti declares “Historic Victory” after early elections
Kosovo Prime Minister and Vetëvendosje (LVV) leader Albin Kurti has hailed his party’s performance in early general elections as a “historic victory.” Speaking after over 90% of votes were counted, Kurti congratulated citizens and the diaspora for contributing to what he called the largest win in Kosovo’s history.
According to preliminary results from the Central Election Commission, LVV received 49.72% of the vote (427,631 ballots), followed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) with 21.19% and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) with 13.74%.
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) took 5.74%.
Parties failing to surpass the 5% threshold will not be represented in parliament.
Kurti emphasized the need to form a new government promptly and expressed readiness to collaborate with the opposition on pending international agreements worth over €1 billion, as well as the upcoming presidential transition.
The elections follow months of political uncertainty in Kosovo after the previous government was unable to form, with 24 parties and 1,180 candidates contesting.
Over 1.99 million of the 2.07 million eligible voters cast ballots within the country, with another 77,000 voting abroad.
