“Contributions to the Development of the Islamic Religion Awards” presented in Bulgaria

The 9th annual “Contributions to the Development of the Islamic Religion Awards”, organized by the Office of the Grand Mufti of Muslims in Bulgaria, were presented at a ceremony in Sofia.

The traditional event, held in honor of the country’s first Grand Mufti Hocazade Mehmed Muhyiddin Efendi, took place at Sofia’s Lyumier Hall and began with the national anthem of Bulgaria and the anthem of the European Union.

The ceremony was attended by Grand Mufti Mustafa Aliş Haci, Chairman of the High Islamic Council Vedat Ahmed, Turkey’s Ambassador to Sofia Mehmet Sait Uyanık, members of parliament, and leaders of various religious communities in the country.

Awards were presented in five categories to individuals selected by the High Islamic Council:

Halil Hocov, a former staff member of the Grand Mufti’s Office, was honored for his contributions to the institutional development of religious and educational activities and the promotion of Islamic values.

Mümine Yunluol, a Qur’an teacher, received an award for her religious and educational efforts among children and women.

Şaban Haculiev, a businessman, was recognized for his contributions to the renovation of mosques and the distribution of halal products.

Imam Reyhan Sali was awarded for his efforts in advancing the social, religious, and educational activities of the Muslim community and preserving Muslim identity.

An honorary award was presented to Vidin Mayor Tsvetan Tsenkov for his contributions to preserving and developing Islamic cultural heritage in Vidin and promoting institutional and social relations based on cultural diversity.

The ceremony concluded with a performance of Sufi music.

Held for the ninth time this year, the “Contributions to the Development of the Islamic Religion Awards” are given in the name of Hocazade Mehmed Muhyiddin Efendi, who was elected as Bulgaria’s first Grand Mufti on 8 December 1910, and are awarded to individuals who contribute to the development of the Muslim community and Islamic faith in Bulgaria.
