Bulgaria's Burgas region begins recovery after severe weather

According to the Ministry's press centre, emergency teams remain deployed to assist local authorities in recovery efforts after widespread flooding caused significant disruptions. A yellow weather alert remains in effect for northeastern Bulgaria, while authorities continue monitoring water levels in the Tundzha, Yantra, and Maritsa rivers.
Over the past 24 hours, the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection responded to 340 emergency calls nationwide. More than 100 people were evacuated, with operations involving police, gendarmerie, and fire services. Emergency declarations were issued in Burgas, Montana, Vidin, Pernik, and Kardzhali regions.
The majority of the incidents involved fallen trees (218 calls), water pumping (100 calls), and evacuations or rescue efforts (22 calls). As of Saturday, over 80 towns and villages remain without electricity, with power restoration efforts ongoing.
Critical Areas in Burgas
In the Burgas region, the coastal towns of Tsarevo, Sveti Vlas, and the Elenite resort village remain among the worst affected. A total of 87 people, including 17 children, were evacuated. Temporary power outages also impacted Sozopol, the village of Lozenets, and two villages in Karnobat Municipality. States of emergency have been declared in Burgas, Tsarevo, and Nessebar. The BG-Alert system was activated eight times in the past day to issue warnings.
Other Affected Regions
Vidin Region: The entire Chuprene Municipality lost power due to damage to a main transmission line. Some roads were closed because of fallen trees.
Kardzhali Region: A state of emergency was declared in Ardino Municipality after a bridge near Kitnitsa was flooded, cutting off access to several villages including Rusalsko, Lyubino, Latinka, Avramovo, Pesnopoy, and Spoluka.
Montana Region: Power outages were reported in multiple settlements across Georgi Damyanovo, Varshets, Berkovitsa, and Chiprovtsi municipalities. The BG-Alert system was also activated here.
Pernik Region: Emergency status was declared in Tran Municipality, with villages in Breznik, Tran, and Zemen municipalities experiencing power failures. The BG-Alert system was used to warn residents.
Authorities continue to monitor weather conditions closely and urge the public to remain cautious and follow official instructions. Restoration and relief efforts are expected to continue over the weekend as the situation improves.
