Istanbul–Burgas Sea Bus line to launch on June 24

Istanbul Sea Buses (İDO) is launching a new international route connecting Istanbul to Bulgaria’s Black Sea coastal city of Burgas. Regular sea bus services will begin on 24 June 2025, marking a major step in cross-border maritime transport in the Black Sea region.
The service will operate three days a week, with each journey taking approximately five hours. Departures from Istanbul’s Sarayburnu terminal will be at 15:00, while return trips from Burgas will leave at 08:00. Ticket sales began on 29 May, and strong demand is expected throughout the summer season.
"A New Era Begins in the Black Sea"
İDO General Manager Dr. Murat Orhan highlighted the strategic importance of the new line, saying:
“This route will serve as a bridge not only between two cities but also between two countries. We're offering our citizens a comfortable alternative for traveling to Europe.”
He added that after expanding into the Aegean Islands and Northern Cyprus, İDO takes pride in now establishing an international line in the Black Sea as well.
Boost for Tourism and Trade
Burgas is well-known for its historic architecture, expansive beaches, and vibrant cultural life. The new sea route is expected to enhance tourism and commercial exchange between Turkey and Bulgaria.
Visa Requirements
As Bulgaria is a member of the European Union, Turkish citizens with regular (burgundy) passports must obtain a visa to enter. However, holders of green (special) passports can travel visa-free for up to 90 days. Bulgaria does not offer a visa-on-arrival option for Turkish citizens.
