Twenty customs officers detained in bribery operation at İpsala Border Gate
Turkish police detained 20 customs officers in a bribery investigation targeting personnel working at the İpsala Border Gate, authorities said on Wednesday.
The operation was carried out by anti-smuggling and organized crime (KOM) units of the Edirne Provincial Police Department following an investigation into alleged corruption involving customs officials.
Simultaneous raids conducted
According to the investigation, the operation was launched after authorities examined phone conversations and other evidence linked to a suspected member of a criminal organization.
Police carried out simultaneous searches at the homes of the suspects, with 11 raids conducted in Keşan and nine in İpsala. Digital devices and other materials considered relevant to the investigation were seized during the searches.
Investigation continues
The detained customs officers remain in police custody as questioning continues.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and is being conducted on multiple fronts.
