Bulgaria introduces daily vignette system starting February 2026

Bulgaria is set to introduce a daily vignette system starting in February 2026, providing a new and flexible option for drivers making short-term visits or transiting through the country.

As Bulgaria prepares to adopt the euro as its official currency in 2026, questions have arisen regarding potential changes to toll and road usage fees. Authorities have confirmed that existing vignette prices will remain unchanged, while announcing a significant update to the system: the launch of Bulgaria’s first-ever daily vignette.

The new measure aims to address the needs of drivers who enter Bulgaria for just one day or pass through the country in transit, offering a more practical and cost-effective alternative.

What Changes with the Daily Vignette?

Until now, Bulgaria’s vignette system for passenger vehicles using highways and state roads included weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual options. With the addition of a daily vignette, drivers making brief journeys will no longer be required to purchase longer-duration passes.

Officials emphasized that the initiative is designed to facilitate tourism, cross-border mobility, and short-term commercial transit.

Price and Validity

The daily vignette will be priced at €4.09 and will be valid for the entire day of purchase. It will allow passenger vehicles to legally use Bulgaria’s highways and national road network during that period.

Authorities stated that the pricing aligns with the existing vignette structure and reflects the needs of short-term road users.

All Payments to Be Made in Euros

Following Bulgaria’s entry into the eurozone on January 1, 2026, all vignette fees—including the new daily option—will be charged exclusively in euros.

Officials noted that the currency transition will not require any additional action from drivers, as the system will be updated automatically.

Where to Buy the Vignette

Vignettes can be purchased via Bulgaria’s official digital toll platform, bgtoll.bg. Drivers select the desired vignette type and complete payment online. Enforcement will continue through automatic license plate recognition systems.

Vignette Prices for 2026

Authorities confirmed that vignette fees for 2026 will remain at 2025 levels:

Annual vignette: €49.60

Quarterly vignette: €27.61

Monthly vignette: €15.34

Weekly vignette: €7.67

Weekend vignette: €5.11

Daily vignette: €4.09
