Bosnia and Herzegovina declares national day of mourning after deadly floods
The governments of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), the Republika Srpska (RS) entity, and the Brčko District announced that today would be a day of mourning to honor the victims of the floods. The decision was taken at the entity level after Bosnian Serb ministers blocked a state-level mourning declaration.
In line with the mourning period, flags across the country were lowered to half-mast, and all public entertainment and cultural events were canceled.
Search Efforts Ongoing
The Herzegovina-Neretva Canton reported that search operations continue for nine missing individuals, with five in Jablanica and four in Konjic. Rescue teams from Türkiye, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Slovenia are assisting in the efforts.
Aid from Türkiye
The Kütahya Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) sent 60 containers of aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the send-off ceremony, Kütahya Governor Musa Işın expressed his condolences to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing the historical and emotional ties between Turkey and the region. "Our nation has always stood by our brothers and sisters in need, following the instructions of our President," Işın remarked.
IHH Aid to Affected Families
The Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) has also provided crucial assistance to families affected by the floods. The foundation delivered food and hygiene packages to 350 families in the hardest-hit areas, including Jablanica, Konjic, Fojnica, and Kreševo. IHH continues to support relief efforts and shared the Bosnian Civil Defense Ministry’s list of urgent needs, including drinking water, food supplies, hygiene products, and equipment like water pumps and inflatable boats.
