Ahi Evran Veli Kırşehir Mosque opens in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Opening Ceremony and Speeches

The mosque, which was constructed with support from the Turkish Diyanet Foundation, officially opened its doors with a ceremony attended by numerous guests from both Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Cebrail Küllü, Eurasia Countries Department Specialist at the Turkish Directorate of Religious Affairs, conveyed greetings from Ali Erbaş, the President of the Directorate of Religious Affairs. Küllü expressed, “I am delighted to be present at the opening of this mosque in Olovo, which is a symbol of our brotherhood.”

He also emphasized, “Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey are inheritors of a shared history and civilization. Mosques have been at the center of life in Islamic history, carrying this heritage into the future.”

Gratitude and Well-Wishes

Husein Kavazovic, President of the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina, extended his gratitude to Turkey and wished for the mosque to be preserved and to serve future generations. Mustafa Güvenç, the Religious Services Consultant at the Turkish Embassy in Sarajevo, expressed hopes that the mosque would strengthen the ties between the two countries.

Güvenç added, “Mosques are not just places of worship; they are symbols of our civilization and the heart of our cities.”

Historical Reminder

During the opening ceremony, Sarajevo Mufti Nedzad Grabus reminded attendees of the destruction of over 600 mosques during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting the importance of such structures. The ceremony also featured recitations of hymns by hafiz (Quran memorizers) from both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye.

The mosque, built in the center of Olovo, was largely funded by donations from Türkiye.
