Türkiye’s Directorate General of Foundations signs cooperation protocol for mosques in North Macedonia

The Islamic Religious Union of North Macedonia (IRU) has signed a cooperation protocol with Türkiye’s Directorate General of Foundations (Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü). Under the agreement, several historic mosques in the country will undergo restoration, including the Hasan Baba Mosque in Bitola and the Balaban, Yahya Paşa, and İsa Bey Mosques in Skopje.

According to a statement from the IRU, the protocol was signed on 6 December 2025 between Reis-ul-Ulema Hfz. Shaqir ef. Fetai and Sinan Aksu, Director General of the Turkish Foundations Directorate. Following the signing, the Turkish delegation visited the Skopje Muftiate and the Tetovo Muftiate.

In Skopje, the delegation was welcomed by Skopje Mufti Dr. Qenan Ismaili, while in Tetovo they were received by Tetovo Mufti Dr. Hfz. Selver Xhemaili. During the visit, the delegation inspected several mosques and the Old Bazaar in Skopje, as well as the Alaca Mosque in Tetovo.

The delegation was accompanied by IRU Foundations Director Fehmi ef. Ebibi and the officials responsible for relations with the Republic of Turkey, Nizam Reshit and Dr. Furkan Şaban.
