"Turkish Image in Greek Perception" panel was held at Edirne Trakya University (TÜ).
According to the statement made by the university, the conference organized by the Trakya University Balkan Research Institute and the Rhodes, Kos and Dodecanese Turks Culture and Solidarity Association was hosted by Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Prof. Dr. Fehmi Yıldız. The panel was held at the Conference Hall of the University.
The panel was moderated by The Balkan Research Institute Deputy Director Assoc. Dr. Ali Hüseyinoğlu.
Speaking at the panel, Rhodes, Kos and Dodecanese Turks Culture and Solidarity Association President Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kaymakçı stated that the positive and negative aspects of the Turkish image in the perception of Greece should be known.
Noting that the the Greek people should be investigated in detail, Kaymakçı said:
"Two peoples live on the two sides of the Aegean Sea and there are two states. However, there are problems and some negative relations between these two peoples and the two states throughout the historical process and also in the Republican period.
There are many studies on the political dimensions of this.
However, studies on what the Turkish image represents in Greek people are not enough. This is important in this respect.
If we do not know the positive and negative cultural dimensions of this image in the Greek perception, we cannot know how to transform them into a positive one in the process.”
Istanbul University Faculty Member Assoc. Dr. Nilüfer Erdem and Marmara University Faculty Member Dr. Neval Konuk Halaçoğlu also made a presentation at the panel.
The panel was attended by Trakya University Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu, Director of the Balkan Research Institute Assoc.
