Racist attack targets Edinburgh Central Mosque, police launch investigation
According to the UK-based broadcaster BBC, the mosque, located in the Potterrow area of Edinburgh city centre, was targeted with hate-filled messages at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Central Mosque condemned the attack, stating that the incident has caused deep sadness and concern within the community.
“This incident has deeply upset and concerned us,” the spokesperson said, emphasizing that the attack affects not only the local Muslim community but everyone who values “peace, dignity and mutual respect.”
“This attack does not reflect the Edinburgh we know and love,” the statement continued. “Our city is defined by diversity, compassion and strong community bonds. We believe these shared values will prevail over division and hatred.”
Police Investigation Ongoing
Police Scotland confirmed that an investigation is underway to fully determine the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible. Authorities have not yet announced any arrests.
The incident has renewed concerns over hate crimes targeting religious sites and minority communities in the UK, amid broader discussions on racism, intolerance, and community safety.
