Islamophobic attacks on mosques in London
Islamophobic graffiti has been found on seven mosques and schools in London, marking a disturbing rise in anti-Muslim hate incidents in the UK capital.
According to the London-based news outlet The Standard, the most severely affected sites were Stratford Mosque and Leyton Jamia Masjid, both of which were defaced with Islamophobic messages.
Authorities have reported that the incidents, which occurred between January 6 and 23, primarily targeted mosques and religious institutions in East and South London. Investigators suspect that the attacks were orchestrated by an anti-Muslim group offering a financial reward of £100 to individuals who participated in vandalizing the places of worship.
In response, law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the perpetrators responsible for writing derogatory messages about Islam and Muslims on mosque walls and Muslim-affiliated schools.
The police have classified the incidents as hate crimes. However, as of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the attacks.
