At least 27 people martyred, including women, children, after two days of fierce Israeli bombardments, health ministry says

The death toll from Israel’s two-day military onslaught against the Hamas-run Gaza Strip rose to 27 on Monday after two more bodies were pulled from the rubble, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.

“The two bodies belong to the martyrs Talal Attiya Abu al-Jidian and his wife, Raghda Mohamed Abu al-Jidian, both of whom were killed in their home in northern Gaza on Sunday by an Israeli attack,” ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said in a statement.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Israeli military pounded the coastal enclave with airstrikes and artillery barrages, while Gaza-based resistance factions responded by firing rockets towards southern Israel.

The violence ended at dawn Monday, when a ceasefire -- exact terms of which remain unclear -- went into effect.

According to al-Qidra, another 177 Palestinians in Gaza were injured, many seriously, in the onslaught.

The Israeli media, meanwhile, has reported that four Israelis were killed during the two-day exchange and 130 others were injured.
