Xanthi: Two detained in smuggling operation involving cigarettes and tobacco

On November 19, 2024, two individuals were detained in Xanthi for violating the National Customs Code. The Public Safety Unit of the Xanthi Police Department seized a significant quantity of contraband cigarettes and tobacco during operations.
Details of the Operation
First Incident:
In the morning, authorities stopped a truck during an operation. A search revealed 3,000 packs of untaxed cigarettes, smuggled without paying the required customs and tax duties.
Second Incident:
At noon, a residence was raided, uncovering 181 packs of untaxed cigarettes and 850 grams of tobacco in 17 plastic bags. These items were also identified as tax-dodging contraband.
Legal Proceedings
The seized products were confiscated, and individual case files were prepared for the two suspects. Both were referred to the Xanthi Prosecutor's Office. The investigation is being conducted by the Xanthi Police Department's Security Unit.
