“We appreciate the boycotts in minority schools”

The Turkish Minority Advisory Board of Western Thrace pointed in their statement that boycotts in minority schools have been appreciated.

The Advisory Board stated that the Greek textbooks prepared by the Frangudaki Team 20 years ago do not respond to today's needs anymore.

The statement of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board is as follows:

“The Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board has been following the developments on Greek books to be taught in minority schools from the beginning. In this context, at the request of the Union of the Councils, the Advisory Committee held an extraordinary meeting on 26 September 2018 Wednesday and discussed the incidents taking place on minority education.

We, as Advisory Board, appreciate the ongoing boycott of minority schools and the sensitivity of parents in this regard. As a matter of fact, we would like to invite our people to be more discreet in the next steps and we wish to continue their sensitivity towards education.

After the meeting with the provincial education coordinator Keramaris made by the Advisory Board, deputies we appreciate the decision to meet with the Minister of Education and the Institute of Primary Education in Athens.

Within the framework of the Education of Muslim Children Lesson (Frangudaki Programme) project, it is obvious that Greek textbooks written for minority schools twenty years ago do not respond to today's needs anymore. The education community's desire is to prepare new books for minority schools or to make a suitable content of the state schools in order to be taught in minority schools as well.

Since education is indispensable for our children, it is our greatest desire to raise the level of education in minority schools too.

As the Western Thrace Turkish Minority Advisory Board, we would like to inform you once again that we will be the followers of this issue until the end of this issue, and that we will take the next decisions according to the results of the negotiations in Athens.

It is publicly announced.”
