Warning: Severe weather conditions expected on Wednesday and Thursday in İskeçe – Civil Protection Update
The Independent Civil Protection Department of the Municipality of İskeçe has issued a warning to residents and visitors, announcing that a severe wave of adverse weather is expected to affect the region, according to an emergency bulletin from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY).
The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, including İskeçe Prefecture, is forecast to be hit by dangerous weather phenomena, mainly on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, and Thursday, January 8, 2026. Continuous heavy rainfall and strong thunderstorms are expected to be the main characteristics of this weather system.
By decision of the Secretary General for Civil Protection, the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will be placed under a state of heightened preparedness (Red Code) from Wednesday, January 7, through Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise extreme caution during the onset and duration of the weather phenomena in order to avoid accidents and injuries. Citizens are advised to follow the instructions of the competent authorities and to limit travel to essential movements only.
