The 2024 tourism statistics for the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) Region have been released, revealing a 12.7% increase in tourist arrivals. Once again, visitors from Türkiye led both in number and total spending.

The 2024 tourism statistics for the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) Region have been released, revealing a 12.7% increase in tourist arrivals. Once again, visitors from Türkiye led both in number and total spending.

According to the annual report titled “Who Goes Where? How Long Do They Stay? How Much Do They Spend?” prepared by the Institute of the Hellenic Association of Tourism Enterprises, Türkiye was the top source of tourists to EMT in 2024, followed by Bulgaria and Germany.

Rising Visitor Numbers, Slight Dip in Overnight Stays
In 2024, EMT welcomed:

737,000 visitors from Türkiye
162,000 from Bulgaria
155,000 from Germany
While overall tourist arrivals surged, the total number of overnight stays saw a 1.5% decrease, dropping from 5.835 million to 5.746 million nights.
Top overnight contributors included:

Türkiye: 1.77 million nights
Germany: 1.57 million nights
Romania: 725,000 nights
 
💶 Tourism Revenues Surge to €386 Million
Tourism revenue in the region climbed from €326 million in 2023 to €386 million in 2024, marking an 18.3% increase.
Key contributors to the total revenue:

Türkiye: €162 million
Romania: €56 million
Germany: €45 million
 
📊 Spending Patterns and Stay Duration
Average spending per visit rose to €267, a 5% increase
Average spending per overnight stay increased by 20% to €67
However, average length of stay dropped by 13%, settling at 4 nights
