Turkish Minority School: Our demand for a new building cannot be overlooked

The School Board and Parent-Teacher Association of the Xanthi Minority Middle and High School have strongly criticized Deputy Minister of Education Zetta Makri's statements regarding the school’s building issues.
Makri's claim that the current building is "more than adequate and safe" has caused significant disappointment within the minority community. The School Board and Parent-Teacher Association emphasized that the current building, an old wooden tobacco warehouse, is entirely unsuitable for modern educational standards. They described this approach as a grave injustice to students, families, and educators.
The Board expressed frustration over years of governmental indifference to their demands for a new building, stating that this attitude has only made the issue more complex. Officials were invited to visit the school to observe the conditions firsthand.
"Our children are being deprived of their right to equal education," the statement said, reiterating that a new school building is not just a need but an absolute necessity.
