Traditional Turkish breakfast showcased in Athens
The Turkish Consulate General in Athens-Piraeus hosted a special event to celebrate World Breakfast Day, presenting the rich flavors of a traditional Turkish breakfast.
Under the hospitality of Consul General Işıl Işık Civelek at the consulate residence, Turkish and Greek guests enjoyed a spread featuring classic items such as olives, cheeses, jams, menemen (Turkish scrambled eggs with vegetables), börek, tahini, honey, sucuk (Turkish sausage), simit (sesame bread rings), dried apricots, and fresh vegetables.
Attendees also had the chance to savor authentic brewed Turkish tea, enhancing the cultural experience.
Consul General Civelek emphasized that breakfast in Turkish culture is more than just a meal; it is an important social ritual for gathering and sharing thoughts and feelings. "Today, we wanted to share this experience with all our guests and it brings us great joy to host them here," she said.
Greek writer Hrisa Spiropulu, a frequent visitor to Turkey since 1976, praised the diversity and richness of Turkish cuisine, highlighting her fondness for the soups and stuffed dishes of the Ordu region. "My memories of Turkey are often connected to these tastes and aromas," she reflected.
