Tourism pulse in Alexandroupolis: Majority of tourists come from Türkiye
An event in Alexandroupolis unveiled findings from the "Tourism Barometer" study, highlighting the city’s tourism status and growth strategies. The study shows that the largest group of tourists in Alexandroupolis are from Türkiye, followed by visitors from Bulgaria.
The research involved interviews with 14 regional institution representatives and tourism operators, as well as face-to-face surveys with 445 visitors. Turkish tourists, primarily from higher-income brackets, are the largest segment, drawn to the city’s entertainment, dining, and beaches, with less interest in historical and cultural sites.
The study notes a decline in domestic tourism, impacting the sector negatively, and calls for diversification of the visitor profile to reduce reliance on Türkiye and Bulgaria. Recommendations included expanding into new markets and improving infrastructure, such as more accommodation options, customs building renovation, increased parking, and promoting alternative tourism. These strategies aim to bolster Alexandroupolis as a versatile destination.
