Topiros Municipal Council unanimously calls for support for livestock farmers
On Friday, December 6, the Topiros (İnhanlı) Municipal Council convened to address the challenges faced by local farmers due to the outbreak of sheep and goat pox in the region, which has caused significant economic losses. In response, the council issued a unanimous statement urging compensation for affected farmers and initiating a resolution process through engagement with regional MPs and the Ministry of Agriculture.
The council’s statement emphasized the devastating impact of the outbreak on the livestock sector, noting that many farmers are unable to recover from their losses and are grappling with severe financial difficulties. Recognizing livestock as a vital pillar of the local economy, the council called for the government to take the following immediate actions:
Prompt compensation payments: Provide financial relief without requiring tax or insurance documentation.
Support and incentive programs: Aid in rebuilding livestock populations and ensuring continuity of production.
Tax relief measures: Offer tax reductions for farming facilities.
Access to national and EU funds: Simplify access to financial resources to cover losses and ensure sustainability.
Enhanced veterinary services: Strengthen preventive measures and biosecurity protocols.
Specialized support: Include fodder aid for quarantined areas, reimburse stored feed losses, establish safe slaughterhouse conditions by December 15, and offer educational support to families affected by the crisis.
The council reaffirmed its solidarity with local farmers, urging the government to assume responsibility and implement these measures swiftly. The implementation process will be closely monitored to ensure accountability and effectiveness.
