"Aegean Boat Report", a non-governmental organisation monitoring irregular migration movements in the Aegean Sea, reported that a boat belonging to Frontex, the European Union's (EU) border protection agency, watched as Greek Coast Guard units illegally pushed back irregular migrants off the coast of Lesbos Island on 25 January.

According to Aegean Boat Report, on 25 January, a boat carrying 38 irregular migrants from Afghanistan was stopped by the Greek Coast Guard as it approached north of Lesbos and pushed back to Turkey.

It was noted that a Latvian boat from Frontex was present at the scene but could only observe this illegal intervention.

In the report, which included videos taken by irregular migrants, it was stated that the Greek Coast Guard units pushed the boat carrying irregular migrants towards Turkish territorial waters by breaking the engine.

It is stated in the report that the boat carrying irregular migrants was detected by the Turkish Coast Guard units and brought to Türkiye, and that the Frontex boat, which witnessed this illegal intervention, did not issue any report on the incident.
