The ongoing fire in Karlık Mountain in Komotini has reached alarming proportions.

The fact that the fire in Karlık has been going on for 13 days and cannot be extinguished raises questions in mind. The fire continues as of today (Thursday, November 3rd).

The smoke rising from the fire that started near the summit of Karlık Mountain has been spreading to the west and south of the Rhodope province and even to the Thassos Island for the last three days. In some parts of Komotini, the smell of burning began to be felt.

OPERATIONS CENTER AT ÇEPELLI STADIUM 

An operation center was established in the Çepelli village stadium to fight the fire that could not be extinguished on the 13th day.

Upon the call of Nikos Çalikidis, Deputy Head of the Rhodope Province, the Rhodope Civil Protection Coordination Board held a meeting on Thursday, November 3rd. The committee evaluated the measures to be taken to extinguish the fire. It was stated that the fire also spread to the Kirkovo region of Bulgaria.

Citizens living in the Yaka region of Komotini, close to Karlık Mountain, express their concerns with their social media posts.
