The fire burned throughout the night in the mountainous villages of Soufli, with Ruşenler at the center of the operation. The blaze is spreading through particularly difficult terrain and has already destroyed large areas of pine forest.

Strong winds in the area are further complicating firefighting efforts, making access and containment more difficult.

148 FIREFIGHTERS AND 38 VEHICLES DEPLOYED
According to an update from the Hellenic Fire Service, a large firefighting operation is underway, with reinforcements arriving from Selanik (Thessaloniki) and Eastern Macedonia.

A total of 148 firefighters are currently operating in the area, supported by eight specialized wildfire-fighting units from the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 21st EMODE units, as well as 38 firefighting vehicles.

For aerial firefighting operations, three helicopters and two aircraft have also been deployed.

The fire remains active in a remote forested area, while ground and aerial crews continue efforts to contain the flames.
