The event of Gökçeler Youth Association held in the village square
The event organized by Seleron (Gökçeler) Youth Association of Xanthi province which was prohibited to be held in the village primary school garden took place in the village square.
The event started at 20:00 on Friday, September 2 and continued until late. While different groups performed at the Gökçeler youth event, many cognates from the surrounding villages attended the event.
The event started with the speech of Seleron (Gökçeler) Youth Association President Eda Fındıkçı. Representing the Consulate General of Türkiye in Komotini, consular officer Güven Bora, Xanthi SIRIZA Deputy Hüseyin Zeybek, Xanthi Mufti Candidate Mustafa Trampa, Bulustra (Avdira) Mayor Yorgos Çitiridis and members of the municipality council, Xanthi Turkish Union President Ozan Ahmetoğlu, Chairman of the Western Thrace Minority Schools Councils Union Ahmet Kara, State President Advisor Mustafa Mustafa and other guests attended.
As it will be remembered, the Xanthi Primary Education Directorate did not allow the summer entertainment organized by the Seleron (Gökçeler) Youth Association to be held in the garden of the minority school. After that prohibition the event the administrative board of the association decided to move to the village square.
Despite all kinds of bans, the youth festival took place in the village square with the participation of thousands of people. Young people rebelled against the prohibitionist mentality, but did not give up the activity.
