Schools to remain open on Friday in Xanthi
The Municipality of Xanthi has announced that all primary and secondary schools will operate as usual on Friday, February 28, 2025, despite the traditional practice of closing schools for the city's carnival celebrations.
Municipality’s Statement:
"Every year, schools in Xanthi remain closed on this day due to the cultural events of the Thracian Folklore Festival. However, since this year’s scheduled festivities have been canceled, the legal requirements for suspending school operations are not met."
While classes will continue as usual, a high participation of teachers in the planned strike is expected, along with student and teacher involvement in demonstrations marking the tragic anniversary of the Tempi train disaster.
The municipality expressed its gratitude for public understanding and extended wishes for a joyful Carnival season.
