Samples of hate speech against the minority by the Greek media

In recent years, cultural biases have increased among the Greek media. Especially, the social media-based web site tourkikanea.gr has shown the most extreme form of hate speech against the minority members. By this way, Turks in Western Thrace are marked as ‘spy’, ‘traitor’, ‘seperatist’ etc.

The latest one of these samples was the article published with the title: ‘ΒΑΤΟΒ- Η ΦΟΙΤΗΤΙΚΗ ΟΡΓΑΝΩΣΗ ΤΗΣ ΤΟΥΡΚΙΑΣ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΘΡΑΚΗ. (BATOB-STUDENT ORGANISATION OF TURKEY IN THE GREEK THRACE)’.

In this title, it is obviously seen that the original name of the organization `STUDENT UNION OF WESTERN THRACE’ is changed in a provocative form that makes an impression to be an organization of an intelligence agency.

All of these comments below the pictures has an aim of marking the minority members. But one of the most exaggerated comment is the one which targets the young lady Ebru Onbaşı’s ironic tweet which critisizes the racism in Greece. The comment below this Tweet also charges Miss Onbaşı to be an active member of the espionage organization and declaring a Turkist discourse.

Each community living as a minority seeks NGOs in order to maintain its belonging. BATÖB is one of the NGOs in Turkey which gathers the Students of Western Thrace under the same roof. However, acting as these kinds of organizations are branches of an intelligence agency is the pointer of the hate against the cultural differences in a country.
