Region President Topsidis, councillors swear in

Christodoulos Topsidis, who won the second round of the region elections in October 2023, and the councillors were sworn in.
As of 1 January 2024, Christodoulos Topsidis, who will take office as the President of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, and the councillors attended the swearing-in ceremony held in Komotini on Sunday 17 December. Topsidis and the Christian councillors swore on the Bible and the Muslim Turkish councillors swore on the Holy Quran.
Deputy Minister of Interior Theodoros Livanios, the despots of the provinces of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the President of the Assembly of the Union of Greek States, the President of the Province of Central Macedonia Kostas Tzitzikostas, the representatives of the police and the army, the newly elected members of the provincial assembly and a large number of citizens attended the swearing-in ceremony held in Komotini Concert Hall.
In his welcoming speech, Minister of the Interior Livanios wished Topsidis well and noted that Topsidis has a difficult task ahead of him as head of the state and that there is no time to solve the problems.
Tzitzikostas, in his short greeting speech, thanked former President Metios for his services and stated that he will always be with the newly elected President Topsidis.
Tzitzikostas said that the provinces of Central, Western and Eastern Macedonia and Thrace will join forces and work together to overcome the problems.
New Region President Christodoulos Topsidis, in his speech, thanked all the officials for their participation and stated that they will work with all their strength and team for the development of the region and solving the problems.
The old and new mayors of Xanthi, Drama, Kavala, Rhodope and Evros provinces were also present at the ceremony, where three appointed mufti were also present.
