Region Governors meet at local government summit in Alexandroupolis
The Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region is hosting an event that serves as the heart of Greece's local governments.
The two-day conference of the Union of Greek Regions (ENPE), titled "Regions Facing Challenges: Institutional Reform and the Climate Crisis," began on Monday, November 18, 2024. The event is being held at the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Thraki hotel in Alexandroupolis.
Hristodoulos Topsidis, Governor of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Region, delivered the opening speech, greeting the participants and stating:
"Our common concerns for the future of local governance and our hopes for a better tomorrow bring us together at this conference of the Union of Greek Regions (ENPE). This event provides a platform for open dialogue and collective efforts for local governance."
Topsidis also emphasized the importance of holding the conference during a time when the Greek government is working on a new draft law for local governance. He stated, "We hope this institutional initiative will address the chronic problems of local governance and serve as a decisive step toward the transition from Regional-Local Government to Regional-Local Governance."
The conference will address current issues such as the challenges faced by regional governments, institutional reforms, and the climate crisis. The summit will serve as an important platform for discussions aimed at creating a more effective and sustainable structure for local governments.
