Record year for tourism in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace in 2024
Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region has emerged as one of Greece’s fastest-growing tourist destinations in 2024, according to a recent report by INSETE Intelligence.
The region recorded a 12.7% increase in visitor arrivals, reaching 1.44 million tourists, well above the national average growth of 8.9%.
Tourism revenues also rose significantly by 18.3%, totaling 386 million euros, placing the region among the top six in Greece for revenue growth.
Most visitors came from neighboring countries, while traditional European markets like Germany remained strong.
Average spending per visit rose to 267 euros, with per-night spending increasing by 20% to 67 euros.
Although the average length of stay slightly decreased from 4.6 to 4 nights, overall tourism income continued to grow.
Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis said, “The 2024 results confirm our region’s rising profile in Greece’s tourism map. Our focus remains on sustainable tourism that benefits our communities and economy.”
Deputy Governor for Tourism Panagiotis Archontis added, “This success is the product of strategic planning and collaboration. We aim to build a strong and lasting tourism identity for Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.”
With this strong growth, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region is set to become a key player in Greece’s tourism sector.
