Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to visit Gümülcine

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to visit Gümülcine on Tuesday, November 4, where he will attend the inauguration ceremony of DESFA’s new natural gas compression station at the Gümülcine Industrial Area (VIPE) at 12:00 p.m.

The new facility represents a key energy infrastructure project, designed to increase the volume of natural gas transported through the region and to enhance Greece’s and the wider area’s energy supply security. The station will enable greater gas flows both westward and eastward from Gümülcine, complementing the ongoing integration of the Alexandroupolis FSRU terminal with the National Natural Gas Transmission System (ESFA) and other strategic energy developments in northern Greece.

The Gümülcine Compression Station includes three compressor units—two operational and one in reserve—with a total installed capacity of 24 MW (3×8 MW). It will have a throughput of 380,000 to 656,000 Nm³ per hour, operating at a pressure of up to 80 barg. The installation is also designed to handle hydrogen–natural gas blends, with hydrogen concentrations of up to 10 percent.

According to local sources, the Prime Minister is also expected to visit the construction site of the new Gümülcine General Hospital during his trip.
