Police warns against phone scams in the EMT Region

The police have issued a warning about the rise in phone scams in the EMT region. The East Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) Regional Police Department has alerted citizens to the increasing incidents of fraud, explaining the methods used by scammers and the precautions that should be taken.
Scammers are contacting individuals and businesses by phone, posing as customers and requesting advance payments or debt settlements for various services. They also attempt to persuade people to transfer money by pretending to be friends or relatives in urgent need of help, such as for hospitalizations or medical treatments. Another tactic involves sending messages or emails with links that direct recipients to fake websites, where their banking information can be stolen.
The EMT Regional Police Department urges citizens to remain vigilant against these scams and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately.
